The 1st Battalion 143rd Narsingh (Dholpur) Infantry was a short-lived Indian regiment formed at Dholpur on 31 August 1918. The Regiment was one of a handful of new regiments formed by Indian princely states in 1918. Its recruits were from the state of Dholpur while the Maharajah of Dolphur, Udaybhanu Singh, was its Honorary Colonel. The Regiment’s commanding officer was Acting Lieutenant-Colonel James Peters who was appointed from the 10th Lancers (Hodson’s Horse) on 31 August 1918. The Regiment did not serve outside of India and was stationed at Dholpur for the duration of its short existence. In March 1919, the unit was recorded as being “Under formation”. At some point between June and July 1919, the Regiment was disbanded. The excerpt below is taken from the April 1919 edition of the Indian Army List and shows the British officers serving with the Regiment.
