The 4th Battalion 30th Punjabis in the First World War

Lineage: The 4th Battalion 30th Punjabis was formed in India in 1918 and disbanded between April and June 1919. For a history of the Regiment’s lineage see my page on the 1st Battalion 30th Punjabis.

The 4th Battalion 30th Punjabis was a short-lived Indian infantry battalion formed in India in 1918. The Battalion was formed from Indian policemen and was also known as B Punjab Police Battalion. The Battalion was raised at Phillour (Phillaur, Punjab, India) which was home to a police training centre. The 4th Battalion 30th Punjabis first commanded officer was Second-Lieutenant Alexander Warren Mercer who was the Assistant Inspector General of Railway Police. The excerpt below was taken from the April 1919 Indian Army List which was the last Indian Army List which the 4th Battalion 30th Punjabis appeared in. The commanding officer was Captain Douglas Scott Hadow, Superintendent of Police, Delhi. The 4th Battalion, 30th Punjabis was disbanded between April and July 1919.
